Therapharma’s losartan brand marks first year

Therapharma, a unit of United Laboratories, recently celebrated the first year of its brand of losartan, a medicine for high blood pressure.

Losartan belongs to a new class of antihypertensive medicine called angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB).

According to Dr. Esperanza Cabral, past president of Philippine Society of Hypertension, several studies have shown that losartan is effective in lowering blood pressure and helps delay the onset of kidney problems.

Compared with other types of blood pressure medicines, losartan has lesser side effects of cough and rash.

A major advantage of Therapharma’s losartan is that it is priced competitively. The 50mg losartan of Therapharma is about 50 percent less than the cost of the originator brand.

Since its launch last year, Therapharma’s losartan has gained a significant share in the market for antihypertensive medicines.

"We at Therapharma never fail to consult the doctors to know what their patients really need," said John Dumpit, the company’s general manager. "We dedicate this anniversary celebration to the Filipino patient." Therapharma is a pharmaceutical company focused on cardiovascular medicines, developing products that are effective, safe and affordable.
