MANILA, Philippines - Versatility is always a useful advantage when it comes to designing condo units of most developments, which are typically bare, cramped, and irregularly-cut. At Cedar Crest, DMCI Homes’ latest medium-rise project in Taguig City, unit buyers can get inspired to come up with an efficient way to utilize space and maximize the benefits of a condo lifestyle, by checking out the development’s model units.
Jocelyn Arcenas of The Environments Collaborative was tapped to create a design intent for the model units, and she gladly stepped up to the challenge. Following the development’s Neo-Asian minimalist theme, the model unit is rendered as a classic example of how variety can infuse character, function, and comfort in the interiors of a unit.
“As a model unit, we have to show its flexibility for the different users,” Arcenas said. “There are many factors that can be used as a design concept to make the unit stand out, among them the choice of furniture, wall features, color schemes, and textures, among others. At Cedar Crest, we presented two different model units derived from the concept of Neo-Asian minimalism but using a different approach based on the lifestyle of its users.”
The 49.5 sqm 2-bedroom model unit is designed after the theme “Beauty in Simplicity”, created for start-up families or single professionals who can enjoy the practical size and comfort of this unit type. Color schemes, furniture pieces, textures, and accessories were carefully selected by designer to capture the personality of the model unit’s potential resident/s.
Function and aesthetic combine for the modern and cozy comfort that is apparent in all the living spaces of the model unit. The living room uses comfortable furniture in soothing tones, blending well with the modern pieces such as a floor lamp that doubles as lighting source and accent. With no dividers, the living area flows into the dining area, creating an illusion of space inside the unit. The two bedrooms also stand out for their individual appeal, with the first bedroom highlighted by a four-poster bed while the second bedroom is an attractive area that offers efficient spaces for rest and function.
