Green is ‘in’

At the turn of the century, comic book heroes went from simply battling supernatural enemies to more pragmatic, real-world threats — specifically, threats to natural resources for the sake of progress.

While they may not have any super powers to speak of, Community Innovations chose four talented individuals to present us with a “greener outlook” to urbanization. Let’s take a look at these modern day “heroes,” armed with the goal of accomplishing progress without damaging the environment.

Cue the “Green Team,” an eclectic mix of creative minds that were tasked to build Treveia, composed of Community Innovations’ president Dan Abando, vice president for project development Iris Josef, architect and master planner Gilbert Berba, and engineer Kiko Francisco. These individuals were asked to integrate a design theme aligned with both modernity and environmentalism, incorporating hi-tech yet passive elements to make amenities operate efficiently in terms of energy and water use.

Eco-friendly design

Found at the heart of Nuvali— a sprawling new metropolis that is set to rise in the South that house both business and residential districts within a green environment, Treveia is a 60-hectare development that stands for modern and eco-friendly living while providing a family and community nurturing environment.

“Design wise, we are leaning on a more modern approach, bordering on cutting-edge type of design. We tried to keep it simple but elegant and sleek while also being energy-efficient,” said Green Team member Architect Gilbert Berba. “In terms of design, this is the boldest of all Community Innovations’ developments to date.”

This concept led to windows, doors and exhaust being strategically placed to allow the natural flow of air and light through the many residential structures and the amenities found in Treveia. This, according to the Green Team, would minimize the costly reliance on air conditioners and artificial indoor lighting.

“Water-catchment areas such as the “retention pond” found near the energy-efficient clubhouse make use of rain water that would naturally evaporate, emitting fresh air or creating a “cooling effect” that flows into every room of the clubhouse and nearby structures that reduces the role of air conditioners,” says Berba.
