MANILA, Philippines – A roadshow going across the Philippines is giving owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) the opportunity to learn more about technology and other business solutions from the experts.
The 2013 Finance Monitor report of the Asian Development Bank shows that there are 816,759 registered micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in 2011 which make 99.6 percent of the total number of businesses in the country.
It also found that these businesses contributed to the 36.7 percent of the total gross value added in 2012 and employ 61 percent of the Philippine workforce in 2011.
There’s no wonder why small-scale businesses are often dubbed as the backbone of the country’s economy. And this is also why the government, through its MSME development plan for 2016, and private sectors take significant actions in empowering the sector.
The small and medium business group of Globe Telecom, Globe myBusiness, is one that has solutions. Aside from creating a new range of products and services, they are also going around the country to get businesses in the loop in terms of new technologies that are available to them.
Globe explained that with the growth of SMEs in the country and the increasing use of technology in businesses, Globe myBusiness saw that entrepreneurs need expert assistance in choosing the right communication tools so they can effectively put their businesses on the map.
“We understand that small and medium entrepreneurs need relevant, affordable, and hassle-free solutions that will enable them to run their operations smoothly. Now, customers can get communication concerns out of the way to better focus on more relevant things to grow their business,” Globe senior vice president for small and medium business group Martha Sazon said.

On its first stop, Globe myBusiness went to Puerto Princesa in Palawan where foreign investors are starting to flock to engage in new business in the area, particularly in the field of hospitality and business process outsourcing.
