MANILA, Philippines - Being nominated for one of the Franchise Excellence Awards (FEA) is an honor in itself but being awarded the Outstanding Filipino Franchise of the Year in the Restaurant Food Category is the most-sought after recognition in Philippine franchising by franchise restaurants operating the country.
For winning this honor two years in a row, Shakey’s was also entered in PFA’s “Hall of Fame”.
Shakey’s bested 111 nominees to be named the “Outstanding Filipino Franchise of the Year in the Food Category: Restaurant” in the recently concluded Franchise Excellence Awards by the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA).
A Shakey’s franchisee also brought home the coveted Outstanding Franchisee of the Year for the Visayas-Mindanao area.
As if these were not enough, Shakey’s was a finalist in the “Franchise Marketing Campaign of the Year” award.
The FEA is an annual recognition given by the Philippine Franchise Association, together with the Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Philippine Retailers Association, to franchise companies that have shown excellence in business growth and ethical practice. Introduced in 1998, the FEA has become the most prestigious and most-coveted prize in Philippine franchising. In fact, FEA winners have become benchmarks in the domestic franchising sector by which all others have been measured.

Cebu franchisee, Danny Lu Tan, was awarded Outstanding Franchisee of the Year for VisMin area. Not a small feat considering he has five stores in Cebu (Fuente Osmena, Banilad, IT Park, Ayala Center Cebu and SM City Cebu) and two in Davao (Davao Duterte and Davao Victoria).
Tan has been a Shakey’s franchisee since 1978. He believes that the only way the company will be able to give its guests what they truly deserve is to serve them with excellence. Incidentally, Tan was also lauded as the best franchisee, for the second year in a row at the 2008 Shakey’s Cup of Excellence recognition night. He is a front runner for this year’s recognition night.
