MANILA, Philippines – The Asia United Bank has received an outstanding achievement award at the Asean Corporate Governance Awards (ACGCA), which recognized the best firms in the region in terms of implementing good corporate governance. The bank was one of two Philippine publicly listed companies (PLCs) in terms of most improved scores from 2013-2015 based on the results of the Asean Corporate Governance Scorecard. The awards were based on the specifications of the Scorecard that include rights of shareholders, equitable treatment, role of stakeholders, disclosure and transparency, board responsibilities, and bonuses and penalties. The top two PLCs with outstanding achievements and the top three highest-scoring PLCs from each country were named, and finally the top five of the entire region. Former Supreme Court Associate Justice and bank board member Adolfo Azcuna vowed to continue pursuing good corporate governance principles as a deliberate strategy to better serve customers.
