MANILA, Philippines - With a little boost from Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation Inc., “nanay micro-entrepreneurs or female micro-entrepreneurs in Leyte are slowly getting back on their feet and recovering from the devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. A total of 348 “nanay micro-entrepreneurs” graduated from a six-month sari-sari store rehabilitation program dubbed “Project Bagong Araw” facilitated by Hapinoy using a module that was funded by Sun Life Foundation. Among the topics tackled were basic but crucial store management practices such as listing, doing an inventory, pricing, and product presentation. They were also given business skills training and access to capital loans. Moreover, 60 of the “nanay micro-entrepreneurs” were also given a grant by Sun Life Foundation for the makeover of their sari-sari stores, particularly for rebuilding the physical structure of the stores and providing security features including the installation of grills, locks, and sturdy flaps.
