MANILA, Philippines - In support of Republic Act 9512, which aims to promote environmental awareness through education, Epson Precision (Philippines) Inc. (EPPI) conducted training sessions at various high schools in Lipa, Batangas to educate the students on the hazardous effects of mercury and its compounds to the environment.
EPPI visited Inosluban-Maraouy, Bulacnin, Pinagkawitan, Fernando Airbase (Lipa City), and Bolbok National High Schools to educate students on how to properly treat and dispose items that contain mercury. The lecture also gave particular attention on preventing exposure to mercury. More than 330 students attended the training.
“We have expanded EPPI’s commitment to the environment by raising sound environmental practices not only with our employees but with our community as well,†said Epson environment manager Joyce Tan.
In the first week of December, Epson employees went back to the schools to collect busted fluorescent lamps and bulbs generated by the schools, for proper treatment and disposal.
