Planting of malunggay in school premises hailed

MANILA, Philippines - A wellness company hailed education officials in Tuguegarao City for urging elementary and secondary school teachers to establish “Malunggay Avenues” within school premises to fight malnutrition.

Manila Nature’s Link, maker of Malunggai Life Oil, said public schools should follow this example because malunggay is a remarkable discovery, which can make a tremendous difference in your health and quality of life.

Malunggay, universally known as moringa, contains many nutrients that are beneficial to the body, scientific research confirms.

Under Department Order 234, Department of Education nurse-in-charge Antonia Mangussad said all schools are now required to plant malunggay trees to make schoolchildren become aware of its nutritional and medical value to prevent malnutrition and other illnesses.

Mangussad said malunggay was once considered a “poor man’s vegetable,” but it is now known as a “miracle tree” or “nature’s medicine cabinet” by scientists and pediatricians worldwide for its vitamins and minerals which are effective remedies for many kinds of ailments.

Studies show that every 100 grams of pod contain 2.5 grams protein, 0.1 grams fat, 8.5 grams carbohydrate, 4.8 grams fiber, and minerals such as calcium (30 milligrams), phosphorus (110 milligrams), and iron (5.3 milligrams).

Mangussad said the DepEd has developed a malunggay recipe book. DepEd will also train teachers on malunggay processing.

Dr. Marthony Basco, a pediatrician and health advocate, said researches and studies around the world reveal that “malunggay contains seven times more vitamin C than oranges and other vegetables.” “It has four times more vitamin A than carrots and three times more potassium than bananas.”

Because of these abundant vitamins from malunggay, Manila Nature’s Link made the Malungai Life Oil, the only oil-form malunggay supplement in the local market today.

Ariel Nepumoceno, CEO of Manila Nature’s Link, said they will triple their production of the multi-vitamins made from the potent malunggay oil this last quarter of the year after the public has positively and strongly responded to the healing effects of Malungai Life Oil.

Malungai Life Oil is manufactured by Lloyds Laboratories for Manila Nature’s Link, specializes on wellness products, The oil supply is provided by Orion Energy, which has the biggest moringa plantations in the country today.
