DENR unit pushes green technologies

Advanced technologies for the protection and conservation of the environment were the highlights of a workshop on sustainable consumption and production for selected industries in Central Luzon, held last month at the Subic International Hotel.

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and International  Center for Environmental  Technology  Transfer  (ICETT)  convened various local and some Japanese experts, and representatives from industries for this activity. Its main objective was to discuss green or ecologically - friendly technologies that would help improve the performance of industries engaged in meat processing, power, pulp and paper, piggery, poultry and textile sectors in Central Luzon. EMB assistant director Eugenia Lagmay who represented director Ely Anthony Ouano encouraged the representatives from the industries to put into practice ecologically-friendly principles as a way to do good business.

Lagmay said one such principle is the sustainable consumption and production concept, which aims to balance economic growth with environmental protection. By incorporating this in business operations, consumers can expect better products and services with reduced environmental and social impacts as well as cleaner and efficient production processes, which are good for business, the economy and the environment, she said. – Benny Enriquez
