Addressing the participants, DENR undersecretary Francisco Bravo lamented the fact that "people are engineering our own extinction.".
The ENR management course was aimed at honing the perceptions, experiences, attitude, knowledge and skills (PEAKS) of the participants in order to become well-rounded managers. The DENR considers competencies on these aspects as essential considering the complexity of the challenges in our midst on sustainable development which is explained as the "harmonious integration of a sound and viable economy, responsible governance, social cohesion and ecological integrity to ensure that development is a life-sustaining process."
Towards this general purpose, topics that enabled the participants to enhance their managerial skills especially leadership, and the different areas of concern of the DENR were comprehensively discussed with external and internal experts as resource persons. The case studies relative to mining, lands, forestry, environment and protected areas, and the individual action plans to implement their innovations gave a boost and appropriately complemented both their theoretical and actual learning and experiences.
