NFA expands rolling stores coverage

National Food Authority Administrator Anthony Abad said the NFA will further expand the coverage and distribution network of the Tindahan ni Gloria Labandera rolling store to make available cheap but quality NFA rice and other basic commodities to the poor and low-income communities all over the country.

Abad said there are at present a total of 1,495 units of rolling stores nationwide serving the needs of residents in the depressed areas. Of this number 1,331 units are being run by the agency’s participating partners. The NFA has sought the involvement of the private sector in expanding the operation of the rolling stores nationwide.

The total number of units had far exceed the target set by President Arroyo for deployment. The TGL RS is one of the major programs being pursued by the administration in its effort to alleviate the plight of the poor sector of society.

In Metro Manila alone, some 239 units ply the areas classified as depressed communities, 30 of these are NFA operated while 212 units are being run by the private sector under the operational supervision of the Metro Manila Development Authority.
