MANILA, Philippines — Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) has been instrumental in driving an infrastructure and business boom in Zamboanga City through its steadfast efforts to secure a stable, dependable and cost-effective electricity supply over the past five years.
Since 2019, ZAMCELCO said it has expanded its capacity to deliver 3.21 percent annual average growth rate to over 125,442 total billed consumers.
ZAMCELCO said the enhanced power production and distribution have spurred infrastructure development, attracting investments and generating job opportunities in Zamboanga.
With the improved power situation, ZAMCELCO said hotels, resorts, and other tourism-related establishments now have access to reliable electricity, allowing them to provide a comfortable experience to visitors.
“We’ve been working diligently to improve the infrastructure and grid management in Zamboanga for the last five years,” ZAMCELCO chief management officer Rommel Agan said.
“It’s great to see that our efforts have translated into positive effects to businesses and tourism in the province,” he said.
ZAMCELCO awarded the operations of the contract to a joint venture between Crown Investment Holdings Inc. and Desco Inc. This strategic decision marked a pivotal step towards resolving the cooperative’s financial woes and ensuring a more sustainable future.
The contract covers the management of ZAMCELCO’s operations of the power coop, which handles the distribution of electricity in Zamboanga City.
