MANILA, Philippines — Online payments solutions provider PayPal opened Monday its global customer operations center in Alabang, Muntinlupa to serve English-speaking customers worldwide.
In a statement, PayPal said the facility is its largest and first consolidated operations site in the country.
While PayPal has already employed over 700 individuals for the new office, it intends to hire an additional 1,000 by the end of next year to perform tasks for customer support, voice and non-voice processes, and risk management.
PayPal initially planned to hire 1,000 employees through 2021, but growing needs for key business functions and a large pool of available local talent have prompted the company to raise its targeted employee count.
The company decided to choose the Philippines as the site for its global customer operations facility due to available talent pool in the country.
“Filipinos are renowned not only for their outstanding command of the English language, but also for their customer service expertise, as well as their resourcefulness, hard work, and openness to new experiences. At PayPal, we embrace passion and diversity as part of our culture, and Filipino talents make for the perfect fit when it comes to the values we strive for as a global company,” John Nicholls, country lead and senior director of PayPal Global Customer Services said.
All employees of the global customer operations facility will be given product and cultural training to enable them to better understand and cater to the needs of PayPal customers.
As PayPal seeks to promote innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and wellness, the new office is equipped with facilities reflecting these themes.
In particular, the new office has rest areas, a karaoke room, a games area, as well as a modern cafeteria which serves organic food and converts into a function zone complete with built-in LED (light-emitting diode) screens and state-of-the-art sound system for events.
To encourage teamwork and connectivity among employees, the office also has open collaboration zones.
“Our facilities are meant to embody PayPal’s work-culture philosophy which prizes innovation, collaboration, inclusion, and wellness. By nurturing these values in our office spaces, we provide our teams with the very best in coaching, mentorship and leadership, so they grow personally and professionally in their careers,” Nicholls said.
PayPal’s digital payments platform is available in more than 200 markets worldwide and has more than 286 million account holders.
As PayPal is aiming to continue to democratize financial services, it is looking to hire more individuals to fill a wide range of customer support roles.
