MANILA, Philippines - The wireless unit of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. was recognized as the Best Mobile Operator in the World Communications Awards for the telecommunications industry.
According to Smart Communications Inc., it bagged the award for the second straight year, beating Australia’s Telstra and Middle East operator Ooredoo, during the ceremony held recently in London and organized by Total Telecom which provides analysis and commentary in the industry.
Last year, Smart won in the invitation-only category over six other finalists which included Globe Telecom Inc. and Turkcell.
The event is held annually to recognize the innovation and outstanding performance of companies in the global telecommunications industry.
Smart was named the Best Mobile Operator for its ability to “develop its business by moving into new areas or through service innovation.”
As the company focused on new mobile data offers and partnerships in line with its digital thrust, it posted an all-time high growth for its mobile data and broadband businesses in the nine months of 2015 ending September.
Combined revenues of the company from its mobile data and broadband business reached P15.6 billion for the January to September period this year amid a 139 percent surge in mobile data usage within the network.
Smart has also been entering into partnerships with leading global digital technology companies to cater to the changing needs of its subscribers.
