Learn about LGU, real estate taxation

MANILA, Philippines - While the local government has the power to impose tax on its constituents under its jurisdiction, it is equally important the citizens understand its rights and remedies in case of wrongful or unjust imposition of taxes.

The Center for Global Best Practices invites landowners and administrators, businesses, accountants, lawyers and even LGU officials to a one-day pioneering seminar entitled, “Local Government & Real Estate Taxation,” scheduled on Oct. 23 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City, Philippines. For details and a complete list of best practices seminars, you may log on to www.cgbp.org or call (+63 2) 842-7148/ 59 and 556-8968/ 69, Cebu lines: (+63 32) 512-3106 or 07, Baguio line: (+63 74) 423-5148 or Legazpi line: (+63 52) 736-0148.

This program is designed to address the clamor of many taxpayers and public officials who want to understand local government taxation and real estate taxation from the LGU level.

One of the objectives of the seminar is to empower the citizenry to learn how to seek redress and find solutions should they be over-burdened by or saddled with multiple, excessive and unreasonable LGU fees and taxes.

Another objective is to enlighten and educate local government officials with the right knowledge on LGU taxation so they can be more effective in their governance, administration and implementation of the LGU code.

The one-day seminar will cover two major parts, namely: (a) Local Government Taxation, covering the rules, extent, and restrictions on the imposition of license taxes, fees, penalties by LGUs in the provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays; and (b) Real Property Taxation, a system of levy on real property imposed on a countrywide basis with discussions including special levies, property tax exemption, remedies of taxpayers, procedures in protesting real property tax assessments, and more. This comprehensive lecture can save taxpayers millions in taxes and consulting fees and provide LGU officials very clear guidance in enacting ordinances. Attendees shall be provided many examples of decided cases, rulings, updates, solutions and remedies to their most encountered problems.
