MANILA, Philippines — President Aquino has reappointed the lawyer-father of singer Ogie Alcasid as a member of the board of directors of the state-owned Philippine National Oil Company under the Department of Energy headed by Secretary Jericho Petilla.
From the time Aquino assumed office in 2010, he has appointed Herminio Alcasid Sr. – now 80 years old – as president and chief executive officer of PNOC’s Development and Management Corp.
The older Alcasid’s celebrity-son, songwriter Ogie, was a supporter of Aquino since the May 2010 presidential elections.
Alcasid, who is married to fellow singer Regine Velasquez – dubbed as Asia’s Songbird – is also known as a friend of Aquino’s youngest sister, popular TV talkshow host Kris. President Aquino attended the Alcasid-Velasquez nuptial in December 2010.
Alcasid’s other colleague at the PNOC board is Fernando Barreiro.
Other new appointees of Aquino are Commissioner Ronald Chua of the Presidential Commission on Good Government, undersecretary Joel Jaime Payumo of the Office of the PoliticalAdviser under Secretary Ronald Llamas of party-list group Akbayan, undersecretary Ardeliza Medenilla of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), acting directors Amelita Pangilinan and Corazon Flores of the Department of Health(DOH).
Acting directors Jedidia Aquino, Gina Gacusan, Mae Ester Guiamadel, Roy Kantuna, Alan Olavides, Phlorita Ridao and Victor Ubaldo, all of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) were also appointed together with Joseph Emnas and Eugene Tan as members of the Board of Administrators of the National Electrification Administration – an attached agency of the Department of Energy, and acting directors Amelia de Guzman and Carmencita Bariso, also both under DOE.
