MANILA, Philippines - Duty Free Philippines (DFP) will be vying for two highly coveted citations in this year’s Frontier Awards, considered as the “Oscars” of the travel-retail industry.
The organizers of the Frontier Awards recently informed DFP that it was adjudged finalist in two categories: the Partnership Initiative of the Year and Specialty Concept of the Year.
The winners in this year’s Frontier Awards, a much-anticipated event in the duty free calendar, will be announced on Oct. 29 during the week of the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, France.
DFP was shortlisted for the Partnership Initiative of the Year award for its joint project with Diageo in holding the “Celebrate and Donate” promotion, wherein for every unit of Johnnie Walker purchased, U$1 will be donated to DFP Cares to be used for the purchase of fishing boats for fishermen devastated by Typhoon Yolanda. The project raised $18,000.
For the Specialty Concept of the Year category, DFP’s Media Noche Pack campaign was shortlisted.
DFP sold Media Noche Packs at the Duty Free Fiestamall. In exchange for a simple tree ornament, packs purchased by DFP customers were donated to 1,000 families in Leyte in time for the traditional Media Noche meal during New Year’s Eve.
This is the fourth year running that the DFP has been named a finalist and is very hopeful that this time around, it will bring home a very prestigious trophy from the 2014 Frontier Awards.
“Just by seeing the fruits of our projects and how they lifted the spirits of the Yolanda victims that benefited from them already gave us so much happiness. But, of course, being recognized by a prestigious body like the Frontier Awards gives us an added incentive to pursue more meaningful projects,” Lorenzo C. Formoso, Chief Operating Office of DFP said.
