MANILA, Philippines - SmartNet, the world’s-first social and content aggregation platform developed internally by Smart Communications, Inc.  which allows Smart subscribers to use mobile Internet services safely and affordably, was named best consumer service at the World Communication Awards held recently in London.

The service, which has  about 1.5 million users across mobile web, PC browsers,  Android, iOS, and Windows users, offers the use of popular mobile applications such as Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Chat and Yahoo! Messenger for free, as well as gives access to content from over 100 sources including Yahoo! OMG, Search and Mail.

A key innovative differentiator of SmartNet is a patent pending feature called Safe Zone, which serves as the platform’s anti-bill shock solution and prevents other applications outside SmartNet from accessing the Internet – making  it suitable for  both the Internet habits and purchasing power of Filipino mobile users .

The WCA is an annual awards program recognizing excellence in the telecommunications industry. It is organized by London-based industry publication Total Telecom. SmartNet beat entries from Orange, Portugal Telecom and Turkcell for the distinction. Early this year, SmartNet won best content service at the Asia Communication Awards in Singapore. Other award-winning world-first innovations from Smart are Smart Load and Smart Money.
