MANILA, Philippines - Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. said yesterday it continued to control more than half of the new subscribers of broadband service particularly for long-term evolution (LTE) through its Tattoo mobile broadband.
Dong Ronquillo, Tattoo head of Nomadic Broadband Business, said during the unveiling of Tattoo’s new mobile Wi-Fi service that it continued to corner about 60 percent of the new subscribers of mobile broadband service.
Ronquillo said the remaining 40 percent is being supplied by Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) through Smart Communications and Sun Cellular.
“We are the most preferred brand,†he stressed.
Compared to other service providers, he pointed out that Tattoo’s prepaid LTE packages offer the lowest rates for fastest speed of up to 42 megabytes per second (Mbps) and its devices are P2,000 cheaper.
Tattoo prepaid LTE could be availed as an LTE mobile Wi-Fi device powering up to 10 devices and doubling as a power bank for P4,995 or as an LTE stick for P3,995.
Both devices come with a free five gigabytes worth of data valid for seven days afterwhich the subscribers would be charged P5 for 15 minutes.
“In Tattoo, we want every Filipino to experience the best of what Internet technology has to offer, thus the availability of our prepaid LTE packages made more accessible and affordable,†Ronquillo said.
LTE is a technology that is capable of high-speed data for both mobile phones and data terminals. It is a version of 4G (fourth generation) that offers much higher speeds and improvements in transmitting data as it now uses radio waves.
Globe launched its LTE technology September last year through Tattoo Black.
For his part, Globe head of network planning and engineering Joel Agustin said the telecom provider is sticking to its strategy of focuses on large and contiguous areas instead of sporadic areas for its LTE roll out program.
Agustin explained that its LTE rollout strategy focuses on large, contiguous areas, instead of sporadic distribution in the form of pocket activations or hotspots.
Tattoo now has LTE sites select areas in Makati City, Pasig, Quezon City, Taguig, Manila, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Las Piñas.
He said Globe’s LTE infrastructure has also expanded to key areas in Metro Cebu and Metro Davao as well as the provinces of Bohol, Batangas, Negros Occidental, La Union, Rizal, Aklan, Laguna, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Cagayan, Pangasinan, Isabela, Ilocos, Quirino, Tarlac, and Boracay.
