MANILA, Philippines - Renewable energy developer Sunwest Water and Electric Co. (Suweco) is on track with the commissioning of its 600-kilowatt mini-hydropower project in Sorsogon, a ranking official said.
Suweco president Jose Silvestre Natividad said the project is set for commissioning this week.
“We are commissioning the project starting next week. We are on track with our target,†Natividad said.
The 600 KW mini-hydropower project with an approximately P80 million investment is located in Barangay Guinlajon in Sorsogon. The project is expected to generate 2.786-gigawatt per hour (GWH) annually, which would help in meeting peak demand in the province of 12.406 MW.
It is a joint venture project of Suweco with Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative (Soreco II).
Under the agreement, Suweco is responsible for the rehabilitation and development of the plant, which would be jointly operated by both companies.
The 600-MW mini hydropower plant is part of Suweco’s hydro portfolio.
Aside from the Sorsogon plant, Suweco has two operational mini-hydro power plants with a total installed capacity of 3.6 MW in Catanduanes, Natividad said.
