Manila, Philippines - East Zone water concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. recently inaugurated its upgraded Metrology Center which has received an ISO accreditation.
The Metrology Center in Quezon City employs international standards for meter testing and calibration to ensure an accurate reading of meters installed in homes and industrial establishments in its concession area.
The company said that prior to the installation, the meters passed through a series of acceptance tests based on the guidelines of the MWSS Regulatory Office.
The center recently received an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation from the Philippine Accreditation Office.
“This gives customers assurance that the bills they pay each month is really based on their actual consumption,” said Jun Santos, quality manager of the metrology center.
Manila Water spent a total of P44.5 million for the upgrade of the water meter testing laboratory. This covers P35 million for the acquisition of fully-automated meter benches, P8.5 million for the renovation of the building and P1 million for training ground personnel.
The Metrology Center underwent constant upgrade in the past 15 years. From the manual test bench it used at the start of the concession 15 years ago, the firm enhanced the facility by purchasing a computerized test bench for small meters in 2001 and in 2008, test benches for large meters were installed.
Last year, fully-automated test benches were installed.
The Metrology Center also extends its services to water service developers and meter suppliers outside its concession area.
Manila Water provides water and wastewater services to the following areas: Mandaluyong, Pasig, San Juan, Marikina, Pateros, Taguig, Makati, southeastern part of Quezon City, San Andres and Sta. Ana in Manila, as well as several towns of Rizal province which include San Mateo, Rodriguez, Antipolo, Cainta, Angono, Baras, Binangonan and Jalajala.
