Summer work program for youth launched

MANILA, Philippines - Under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), the Department of Labor and Employment-National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) announces the nationwide hiring of 3,900 out of school and in school youths aged 17 to 20 years old.  They will be employed by Golden Arches Development Corp., the company behind McDonald’s fast-food chain. 

 The SPES aims to help poor but deserving students pursue their education by facilitating their employment mandated under Republic Act 7323 as amended under RA 9574 which took effect on April 2009, making it a year-round program for working youth.

One thousand nine hundred thirty one (1,931) out of the 3, 900 will be deployed in 103 Mc Donald’s branches in Metro Manila.   Interested applicants are advised to proceed to the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of their respective city or municipal hall for the initial screening process. 

Successful applicants will be employed for a period of 52 days and will receive a minimum wage of P426 per day.   Mc Donald’s will shoulder 60 percent of their salaries while the remaining 40 percent will be shouldered by DOLE. 

The first batch of successful SPES hires will be deployed on April 10, 2012 until June 20, 2012.
