MANILA, Philippines - The Technology Resource Center (TRC) is preparing a symposium on how to turn new technology concepts into viable, profitable and successful businesses.
TRC director general Dennis L. Cunanan said this Idea-to-Liquidity Technology Symposium slated at the Philippine Trade Training Center on Feb. 23 could make Filipino proponents of new technologies become entrepreneurs and captains of today’s technology-driven industry.
“This symposium for aspiring and practicing ‘techno-preneurs’ will help them understand the various aspects and requirements of technology commercialization, and how to take advantage of the world’s fast expanding market for technology-based businesses,” Cunanan explained.
“Thus, the Idea-to-Liquidity Technology Symposium will enable them to make informed decisions every step of the way to bringing their commerciable technology concepts into lucratively and actually operating businesses,” Cunanan added.
Among the topics to be discussed are the Philippine Science & Technology Infrastructure and Innovation System by Senate Science & Technology Committee chair Sen. Eduardo J. Angara, Accelerating Innovation by Science and Technology Undersecretary Fortunato T. dela Peña, and Investing in Technology-Based Enterprises by techno-preneurship leader and businessman Cecilio S. Pedro.
Other topics include the what, why, when, and how of establishing a business, the issues and concerns for technology-based business start-ups, and the Technology Commercialization, The TRC Way to be expounded on by Cunanan.
Four topics on technology partnering opportunities — Irradiation Technology, the Future of Nano Technology, Innovative Enterprises in the Making, and Mobile Technology Applications — will be discussed by a panel of experts.
The last topic will be covered by another panel of speakers who will expound on Financing Your Technology – by venture capitalists, angel investors, and government and private finance institutions.
The Technology Symposium forms part of the Technology Partnering Forum (TechForum) 2010 slated in the same venue on Feb. 22-24 to mark TRC’s 33rd year of promoting technology development as a means to boost business and national productivity.
The other components of TechForum 2010 are the Technology Showcase featuring exhibits of research and development institutes as well as public and private academic institutions, and the student-focused Innovation Opportunity Camp and TeknoBiz Idea Challenge.
