New line of Windows phones launched in RP

MANILA, Philippines - Software giant Microsoft announced yesterday the availability of a new line of Windows phones in the Philippines in a broad range of styles and prices.

The Windows phones enable users to navigate their phones easily with the touch of a finger and browse the Internet on a dependable mobile browser, company officials said.

People can also connect to a new service that allows them to back up and share data from their phone to the Web with My Phone.

“In today’s mobile world, our tasks are not defined by where we are and by being more productive, we have time to do the things we want. For people who play and work hard, a Windows phone enables them to bring their digital information, communications, applications, and entertainment wherever they go,” said Andre Ngo, business development-mobility communications sector for Asia Pacific of Microsoft Philippines.

He revealed that around 30 new phones were delivered to more than 20 countries by the end of last year.

Ngo explained that their goal is to keep people connected to each other whenever they want it, wherever they are. “Through Windows phones, we are giving people access to their favorite programs and applications even if they are on the move between work and home. To improve the mobile experience, we are also offering new services that give people access to more relevant business and entertainment applications,” he added.

My Phone is a free service that helps people manage and back up information stored on their phone and provides an easy restore option in the event of a lost or damaged phone. It automatically synchronizes the specific types of a phone’s content the user chooses – from contacts and appointments to texts, photos and more- to a password-protected website.

People can publish their photos from the My Phone website or their phone directly to Windows Live, Facebook, MySpace and Flickr. As part of the free service, people can go online and map the last known location of their phone from when it was last synchronized. In addition, a set of more advanced “lost phone” features are being offered as a premium package that people can activate as needed.

The My Phone premium package includes the ability to remotely lock a phone and post an “if found” message to its screen, loudly ring the phone even if it is set to vibrate or silent mode, and if needed, completely erase the phone to protect personal data from falling into the wrong hands.

Windows phones give people the power to choose the phone that best fits their style and budget by offering phones with a full physical QWERTY keyboard, others with just a large touchscreen, and some with both touchscreen and keyboard.
