Globe sees increased use of voice calls due to per second charge

MANILA, Philippines - Globe, a leading telecommunications company in the Philippines, aims to increase the usage of voice calls among its customers with its per second charging system for voice calls to all Globe and TM subscribers.

Starting Dec. 6, all Globe and TM calls within the country will be charged per second by using the dialing prefix 232 for Globe subscribers and 803 for TM subscribers. Calls made using these will be charged only 10 centavos per second from Monday to Saturday and five centavos on Sunday, making voice calls more affordable to customers.

“By offering per second charging for voice calls, Globe and TM subscribers will get the best value for their money. They get to pay only what they use. At the same time, we hope to stimulate and drive call usage among heavy texters especially during this season,” Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said.

He explained that as Globe makes calls more affordable for customers, they are giving them more reasons to stay in touch with family and friends that will help keep the Filipino value of close family ties alive.

“The family gatherings to celebrate Christmas is a treasured Filipino tradition that we should continue to observe and Globe hopes to contribute to this by making communications all the more accessible and widely available,” Cu added.

Per second charging for local voice calls is offered nationwide to all Globe subscribers.

To enjoy 10 centavos per second calls on Monday to Friday and five centavos per second calls on Sunday, Globe subscribers can simply dial 232 and the 10-digit Globe or TM mobile number.

For TM subscribers, they can dial 803 and the 10-digit TM or Globe mobile number.

Per second charging is applicable to all Globe-to-Globe, Globe-to-TM, TM-to-Globe and TM-to-TM calls made all over the country.

The move to push per second charging for voice calls stems from the mandate of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to implement a per-pulse (maximum of six seconds per pulse) charging system.

NTC Memorandum Circular No. 05-07-2009 or the Guidelines on Unit of Billing of Mobile Voice Service, provides for per pulse charging of mobile voice calls.

Globe said it supports the industry-wide implementation of the new billing system even as the company takes a step further by providing consumers with per second charging for mobile calls.
