Newly-appointed National Power Corp. (Napocor) president Froilan Tampinco is set to start work at the state-owned power firm today, Oct. 2.
The formal turnover ceremonies, on the other hand, will be held on Oct. 6 with former Napocor president Cyril del Callar.
Prior to the Napocor post, Tampinco was vice president for asset management of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM), the state agency overseeing the privatization of Napocor’s power assets.
But before joining PSALM Tampinco was vice president for sales and services of Napocor.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Saint Louis University in Baguio City, a post-graduate degree in Chemistry from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium in 1975 and Master in Management degree at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in 1990.
Del Callar, on the other hand, is credited for bring back Napocor to profitability. At the close of his first year in office, Napocor registered a net income of P85.99 billion, a reversal from a net loss of P29.9 billion in 2004. In 2006, Napocor sustained its profitability with P90 billion, its highest in 70 years.
He was an Energy Undersecretary prior to the Napocor post. — Ted Torres
