NDC taps Spanish group as technical consultant in SLEX project

The National Development Co. (NDC), the investment arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), has contracted the Management and Engineering Spanish Consortium (MESCO) as technical consultants for the upgrading and rehabilitation of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)-Alabang Viaduct or Toll Road 1 (TR-1).

The rehabilitation and upgrading of SLEX-TR1 involves the rehabilitation of the existing viaduct to conform to the road standards of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

NDC general manager Arthur N. Aguilar signed recently the contract tapping MESCO for technical advice on the project.

MESCO will advise NDC on the soundness of the design and construction technologies for the rehabilitation of the viaduct.

The proposed technology, carbon fiber reinforced polymer, is a lightweight, non-corrosive and high-tensile strength material used as an alternative material for strengthening existing concrete structures in order to accommodate higher-design loads, correct deterioration-related damage or increase ductility.

The technical service contract will be funded from the feasibility study grant line allocated by the Spanish government.
