According to the Tracker Report, IBM is the preferred external storage vendor in the Philippines with 26.9 percent market share for the second quarter of 2002
IBM has registered a market share growth of 13.8 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, the highest growth recorded by any vendor in the Philippines.
The Tracker Report also shows IBM as the leading external storage vendor in the first half of this year in the Philippines with a market share of 33.1 percent. This is an increase of 19.2 percent in market share over the first half of last year, again the highest growth by any vendor.
The IDC Tracker Report indicates that in the ASEAN/South Asia region as well, IBM had the highest market share gain in the second quarter of this year over the corresponding period in 2001. IBM gained 4.7 points in this period.
Further, IBM also had the highest market share gain in the first half of 2002 in ASEAN/South Asia over the corresponding period in 2001. IBM gained 5.2 points market share in the period.
"IBM invented the storage market and is today the most comprehensive storage company in the world," said Erwin Chuaunsu, country business manager, storage systems, IBM Philippines.
For his part, IDC storage research director for Asia Pacific Graham Penn said: "We shall continue to set new standards for technology innovation and establish open industry standards, and give our customers the end-to-end integrated and cost-effective solutions that they demand. IBM’s product lineup is very comprehensive allowing the vendor to address the storage needs of most users in today’s market."
Marlene Mendoza-Vianzon, IDC Philippines research director, added: "In the Philippines, the breadth of IBM’s storage systems solutions continues to expand alongside the growing storage systems requirements of large companies as well as small and medium enterprises."
IBM also showed bullish growth in external disk operating with mainframe servers, outgrowing competitors to gain 9.1 share points quarter-to-quarter.
