MECO said it is inviting Nan-Ya Technology Corp. to outsource its packaging requirements from the Philippines for its production of semi-conductor and electronic components.
Nan-Ya is a leading manufacturer of memory chips or DRAM and DDR chips, and a subsidiary of the Formosa Group which has a capitalization of $808 million.
It has two wafer fabrication facilities with a combined capacity of 73,000 wafers per month.
The Philippines is seen as a good location for Nan-Yas packaging operation because of the countrys proximity to Taiwan. The Philippines is only an hour away from Taiwan by air and a popular tourist destination for Taiwan nationals.
Several Taiwanese firms, in fact, have transferred their manufacturing operations in the Subic Bay Freeport.
At present, Nan-Ya subcontracts its packaging operations in Taiwan and Singapore.
Nan-Ya Technology Corp. was established on March 4, 1995 and is based in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Marianne Go
