Hi-Tech Bioenergy, a Filipino-Taiwanese owned firm, with its technology partner, ENTE/IUT of Austria is undertaking a solid waste treatment system for Malabon under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme.
The project is expected to provide a permanent solution to Malabon and its neighboring areas solid waste management problem.
As a BOT project, Hi-Tech Bioenergy will be entitled to certain fiscal incentives such as tax holiday and duty-free importation of capital goods and equipment.
Based on its application with the BOI, Hi-Tech Bioenergys solid waste management system will be able to process 182,500 metric tons of municipal solid waste which will generate an electricity output of 13,834 megawatts per hour per year.
A by-product of 19,440 tons a year of bio-fertilizer will also be produced from its processing of solid waste.
The municipality of Malabon awarded the solid waste management contract to Hi-Tech Bioenergy way back in 2001.
In November 2001, the contract was expanded to include a fermentation plant.
The fermentation plant will be supplied by Entec Umwelttechnik GmbH, Fussach, Voralberg (Austria), the owner of Innovative Umwelttechnik.
