Ecozone export earnings up 19% in Quarter 1

Export earnings from public and private ecozones went up by more than 19 percent to P5.190 billion in the first three months of the year from P4.359 billion in the same period last year, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) reported yesterday.

Shipments from the four public ecozones went up by 6.23 percent to P1.584 billion from P1.491 billion last year. These ecozones – the Bataan Economic Zone, the Baguio Economic Zone, the Mactan Economic Zone and the Cavite Economic Zone – accounted for 30 percent of total earnings.

Shipments from the Bataan Economic Zone went up to P190.82 million for the review period from P134.37 million last year while that from the Baguio Economic Zone rose to P579.26 million from P557 million last year. The Cavite Economic Zone also reported a slight improvement in earnings to P474.79 million from P420.43 million last year.

The Mactan Economic Zone, on the other hand, experienced a drop in earnings as shipments dipped to P339.54 million from P379.38 million last year.

The private ecozones reported a sharp 25-percent rise in exports to P3.606 billion from P2.867 billion last year. Of the 27 private ecozones, the Laguna Technopark recorded the highest export income of P1.069 billion or a slight increase from last year’s P1.026 billion.

The Carmelray Industrial Park I posted the second highest exports of P557.401 million, up from the P476.156 million recorded last year. Amkor Anam followed with P390.205-million worth of shipments.

The Light Industry & Science Park 1 came fourth with exports of P284.993 million from January to March this year. The amount, however, was lower compared to the previous year’s exports of P329.935 million.

The Light Industry & Science Park II, recorded shipments worth P146.388 million, up from last year’s P102.959 million.
