Malayan Bank to put up branch in Las Piñas

Malayan Banking Corp. has enhanced its presence in the southern portion of Metro Manila by putting up a branch in Las Piñas City, Malayan president George Martirez said over the weekend.

Malayan Bank is a thrift bank owned and controlled by the Martirez family and the GMA (Channel 7) Network Inc. group.

Martirez said they were able to expand the bank's operations despite the ongoing moratorium on bank branching being imposed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

He explained that their application for the Las Piñas branch was approved before the BSP ordered the temporary stoppage on the issuance of license for new banks and bank branches.

The Las Piñas branch, he said, is strategically located along the Alabang-Zapote Ave., where most of the popular subdivisions in the area are situated.

"This new branch is near the developed Pilar Village, BF Resort and BF Almanza subdivisions," he said.

He said the new branch occupies the ground and 2nd floors of the newly-constructed building of MJ Realty Holdings, an affiliate company.

"Because of this location the branch can conveniently serve the banking needs of the communities around it," he added.

According to the Malayan Bank president, their bank has been intensifying its efforts in bringing convenience to their growing clientele.

He said Malayan Bank has just signed an agreement with Philippine Long Distance Co. (PLDT) to accept PLDT payments.

The bank president said they are also expecting to get accreditation from Social Security System (SSS) to enable the bank to accept payments for the SSS contributions.

"The SSS accreditation could be soon forthcoming," he said.
