SRA board approves project on sugar mill residues

The SRA Board through its Industrial Research and Development Office approved a project on the establishment of a mass production center for fungus activator and organic fertilizer which was made available to Sagay Sugar Central. The Board based its approval as it recognizes the promotion of the proper utilization of sugar mill residue such as bagasse and mudpress to be processed into organic fertilizer.

The project was made available upon the request of Mr. Romie Cortez, President of Sagay Sugar Central, Inc. in Negros Occidental for seeing the need for cooperation among sugar mill and planters association and sugar workers and dependents.

Based on the agreement, the Sagay Central is committed to provide the laboratory, equipment and apparatus, supplies and materials and shall adopt SRA generated technologies including the disposal and marketing of the finished products. It shall also pay SRA a technology fee amounting to P50,000 for the transfer of SRA Bio-organic Fertilizer Technology.

The SRA for its part, shall provide technical assistance and supervision to Sagay Central personnel who shall take charge of the laboratory and the preparation of organic compost activator. It shall also conduct on-site monitoring and evaluation of the project's progress and shall assist in the field production of organic fertilizer.
