CEBU, Philippines - One person died while another one was injured in a vehicular accident last Saturday evening at DAS Upper Highway, Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City.
Kemp Panimdim, 23, of Barangay Cantabaco, was driving his motorcycle and reportedly did not notice any hazard or warning sign from an Isuzu 10-wheeler dump truck that was parked at a dim portion of the road.
The motorcycle slammed into the rear part of the truck causing Panimdim and his companion, Leonora Albano, to be thrown off the motorcycle.
The victims were immediately rushed to the Carmen Copper Hospital for treatment. However, the attending physician, Dr. Johnrey Ignacio, declared Panimdim dead while Albano, is still in critical condition due to severe injuries she suffered in different parts of her body. She was taken to the same hospital but was later on transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
Investigation conducted by the DAS Police Community Precinct 1 disclosed that the dump truck bearing plate number RAS 530 owned by GEO Transport and Construction Incorporated and driven by Ernesto Milagrosa, 48, of Barangay Pooc, Sta. Fe was just parked along the road without any early warning device placed a few meters away.
It was also dark at the time of the incident due to the rotating brown out, said the investigators.
The motorcycle was also reportedly traveling at high speed when the driver failed to notice the parked truck.
Milagrosa surrendered to the police, pending the filing for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injury. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
