CEBU, Philippines- Aiming to equip barangay workers on matters concerning legalities, Provincial Legal Office recently launched the Barangay Legal Outreach Program in the municipality of Tuburan.
Held at the Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus, the event was graced by Governor Hilario Davide III, Provincial Legal Officer Orvi Ortega and Provincial Board Member Celestino “Tining” Martinez III, the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay-Cebu provincial chapter.
Also present were Mayor Allan Adlawan of Asturias town and Police Superintendent Romer Daguno, head of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, among others.
Barangay captains attended the lecture on resolutions and ordinances, which included definition of terms and common errors in the construction.
Members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa attended the lecture on mediation process, including the types and the conduct of the process. Members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team and barangay tanods were enlightened on the essential aspects of implementing arrest.
Specifically discussed were the definition of arrest, the “when and how” in serving warrants of arrest, the do’s and don’ts in a crime scene, laws governing search warrants, and how to gather data on a crime.
Tuburan Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante expressed deep gratitude to the PLO for the “very significant” occasion.
Diamante is hoping that the participants would be able to apply faithfully what they have learned in their respective barangays. (FREEMAN)
