Woman killed, another hurt in two shootings

CEBU, Philippines -  A female trader died while another one was seriously injured after they were shot in separate incidents in Cebu province yesterday.

In Barangay Poblacion, Danao City, Rayling Ranario, 38, was shot by two unidentified men who were riding in tandem on a motorcycle yesterday evening.

Ranario, owner of a ready-to-wear shop, and her husband Alexander Ranario, 43, were reportedly walking on their way home when the assailants appeared behind them and pointed a gun at the victim.

Rayling was declared dead on arrival at Cebu Provincial Hospital after sustaining two gunshot wounds to her back that exited through her left breast.

Senior Police Officer 1 Rodrigo Roble Jr. of Danao City Police said they are eyeing personal grudge as the possible motive behind the victim’s killing.

“Siya gyud ang tuyo nga gipusil. Negosyante man gud ni siya, nya daghan ang nangutang niya nga wa pa kabayad pagpaningil niya,” said Roble.

The victim’s husband failed to identify the assailants and was not also able to get the plate number of the getaway motorcycle since the place was reportedly dark.

The police are now conducting a follow up operation for the arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, in Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City, Vilma Alcover was injured after she was shot several times by an unidentified man while she was sleeping in her house Tuesday night.

According to the investigation, the assailant managed to get inside the victim’s house and shot her repeatedly while the victim’s children were sleeping in the other room.

Alcover was rushed by her relatives to Carcar Provincial Hospital for immediate medical treatment and was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further medication.

At least seven empty shells from a cal. 45 pistol and two deformed slugs were recovered from the crime scene.

The police are now trying to determine the assailant’s identity and his motive in shooting the victim.  (FREEMAN)
