CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board has approved a resolution requesting the president of Malayan Integrated Industries Corporation and Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy to appear during one of its sessions to shed light on the proposed reclamation project in the town.
“This august body would like to request MIIC president Pablo Villaver and incumbent Mayor Adelino Sitoy to appear before the Sanggunian and enlighten us regarding the (Cordova Development and Reclamation Project) CDRP,†the resolution read.
The proposal, sponsored by the mayor’s son PB member Arleigh Sitoy, was approved by the board last Monday.
The 3,500-hectare reclamation project, said to worth between P89 billion to P100 billion, includes the building of seaports, a third bridge that would connect Cordova and Cebu City, a circumferential 12-lane road, high-rise buildings, among others.
MIIC entered into a joint venture agreement last month with One-Earth Project Management Ventures Inc. to do the project.
This early, PB Sitoy cleared the air by saying he authored the resolution so the PB would be updated, and not because he found something wrong with the project.
He said the PB must be apprised because the last time the project was reportedly presented to the body was still during the time of Marcos as president.
Sitoy said the project also “allegedly has passed a review†at the office of former president Ramos’ legal secretary Renato Corona, and that “despite the foregoing precedents, the said project has been further delayed even until today.â€â€” /RHM (FREEMAN)
