MANILA, Philippines — Lightning threats and heavy rain forced the PGA Tour to suspend third-round play of the Valero Texas Open on Saturday (Sunday Manila time), with Rico Hoey fighting to stay in contention at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course.

Robert MacIntyre held the lead at 15-under par through six holes, maintaining a two-shot cushion over Ludvig Aberg, who surged to 13-under with a three-under effort over the same stretch. Matt Wallace and Ryo Hisatsune trailed at 11-under.

Hoey, tied for 65th, is on the cut line and battling to make the weekend in the $9.8-million championship. Despite hitting all but one fairway through seven holes, he struggled to create birdie opportunities. His closest look – 17 feet on the par-3 16th – came just before play was halted due to worsening weather.

With three par-5s still ahead, scoring chances remain, but the ICTSI-backed golfer faces a stern test in wet, softened conditions that demand longer drives and precise approach shots, as well as steady putting.

Meanwhile, on the LPGA Tour, Lauren Coughlin held the lead despite a 73 for a 209 total but faces mounting pressure from world No. 2 Nelly Korda, who fired a 69 to close within two at 211 at the Aramco Championship in Las Vegas.

Nanna Madsen and Miyu Yamashita are tied for third at 213, while Leona Maguire dropped to fifth after a 74 for 215.

In Augusta, Georgia, Maria Jose Marin delivered a stunning finish to capture the Augusta National Women's Amateur crown, capitalizing on a late collapse by Asterisk Talley.

Marin closed with a four-under 68 for a 14-under 202 total, securing a four-shot victory over Andrea Revuelta.

“It means the world to me,” said Marin, who rebounded from a missed cut last year to triumph at Augusta National Golf Club – home of the The Masters Tournament. The University of Arkansas junior became the third NCAA champion to win the event, joining Jennifer Kupcho and Rose Zhang.

Talley, who held a three-shot lead, unraveled on the back nine. After a bogey on the 11th dropped her into a tie, disaster struck at the par-3 No. 12. Her tee shot found a back bunker, and two failed attempts to escape sent the ball into the water. She eventually carded a quadruple-bogey 7, ending her title hopes.

Marin seized control with a birdie on the par-5 13th to stretch her lead, while Revuelta mounted a late charge with birdies across Amen Corner but settled for second at 206 after a 68.

Soomin Oh also shot a 68 and placed third at 207, while Talley fell into a tie for fourth at 208 after a 75.

Meanwhile, Rianne Malixi, who defeated Talley in both the US Girls’ Junior and US Women’s Amateur in 2024, missed the cut by one.

In addition to her NCAA triumph, Marin also won the Women’s Amateur Latin America, earning spots in three LPGA majors this year.
