MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick Gregorio reiterated the importance of private sector support in sports development.
“They’re an important partner of Philippine sports,” said Gregorio during yesterday’s symposium with Resto PH, a group of restaurant owners in the country, at the Wolfgang Steakhouse in Gateway 2.
Among those present were Resto PH’s Eric Teng, Atty. Al Agra of obstacle sports, University of the Philippines Human Kinetics dean and incoming National Academy of Sports executive director Kiko Diaz, Karen Caballero of sepak takraw and Passi, Iloilo Mayor Stephen Palmares.
Palmares and Teng emphasized how sports help in nation building.
“We’re used to being a sugarcane and rice city and I’m proud to say, because of sports tourism, we have been promoted from a fourth class to third class city,” said Palmares.
“Sports is a very good catalyst,” Teng, for his part, said.
Gregorio also talked to Resto PH so that national athletes’ discount cards will be honored as mandated by law.
