Bianca, Dottie open with over-par rounds

MANILA, Philippines — Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina both stumbled with over-par rounds to find themselves way off the leaders at the start of the Cambia Portland Classic Thursday in West Linn, Oregon.

Pagdanganan actually opened her bid with three successive birdies at the Oregon Club but faltered the rest of the way and wound up with a two-over par 74 for joint 56th. Ardina likewise struggled and coughed up a 75 for a share of 63rd.

The Filipina aces stood barely above the projected cutoff line of three-over par, needing to turn things around in Round 2.

Pagdanganan trailed by six strokes the pacesetting troika of Scottish Gemma Dryburgh, Thai Pajaree Anannarukarn and Spaniard Carlota Ciganda, who turned in identical 68s. Ardina ran seven down.

Former world No. 1 Jin Young Ko of Korea shared fourth spot with six others at 69 while two-time winner Brooke Henderson of Canada and four more players carded identical 70s.

The 23-year-old Pagdanganan hit 10 of 14 fairways but missed eight greens.
