MANILA, Philippines — Fiipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena has soared into the 10th spot of the IAAF men's pole vault World Rankings.
Fresh from clinching a berth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Obiena moved up from his previous top 15 ranking in August.
He had a gold-winning performance at the Salto Con L'asta In Piazza Chiari 2019 in Italy earlier this month, which also made him the first Filipino to qualify for the quadriennial sports event.
Obiena made a tremendous comeback in his career after suffering an ACL injury in 2018.
The 23-year-old is the only Filipino and the highest-ranked Asian on the list.
