MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University-Café France and Far Eastern University-Multi Motors went through some anxious moments before downing their respective rivals in the Smart-PCABL fourth Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City last Sunday.
The Lady Scorpions leaned on Mary Ann Dologue to dispatch the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 70-64, while the Lady Tamaraws relied on the hot hands of Claire Castro to thwart the University of the East Lady Warriors, 61-57.
Dologue scored eight points in the final quarter, including two crucial free throws to defuse the Tigresses. She went on to finish with 17 points and nine rebounds to bag the Dickies Player of the Game award.
The win was the second straight for the Lady Scorpions who demolished the Adamson Lady Falcons, 96-72, in the opener of the event sponsored by CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, K-Tech Sports, Inc., Dickies Underwear and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.
Castro finished in double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Tamaraws survived the Lady Warriors.
FEU likewise hiked its record to 2-0.
In the other game, Ateneo-San Miguel Corp. drew big games from Hazelle Yam and Kai Javier to pull off a thrilling 55-53 win over Adamson for its first win in two games.
