PKF moves to stop POC probe

The Philippine Karatedo Federation has sought a Temporary Restraining Order from the Securities and Exchange Commission against the Philippine Olympic Committee fact-finding committee investigating alleged anomalies in the association.

PKF president Pochollo Veguillas served the petition Friday, the same day the POC fact-finding body, chaired by former POC president Jose Sering, conducted its second hearing although it was only received by the latter yesterday at the POC's annex office in Vito Cruz, Manila.

Veguillas hired the law firm Yulo-Torres-Velasco and Bello Law Offices to handle the case.

But what surprised the respondents was the inclusion of Go Teng Kok in the list since the athletics chief had already inhibited himself from the ongoing probe. Go said he was even singled out in the petition.

"I'm surprised that my name is still there. I don't know if I will attend the hearing set by SEC but I might send someone there to represent me," said Go.

The hearing is set at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the SEC Building in Mandaluyong City.

Should Veguillas' petition for a TRO be granted by the SEC, the third hearing set Thursday by the POC fact-finding committee will be stopped. The Sering committee is set to receive the formal sworn statements of the individual complaints of the karatekas. -
