MANILA, Philippines - There’s nothing like holiday décor to bring the season’s cheer to your home. And with the exciting assortment of trees, ornaments, tabletop centerpieces, wreaths, and accessories available, decorating one’s home for Christmas has become somewhat an art form.
Our Home, the lifestyle store where one can get great designs at great prices, asked some of the country’s most talented interior designers from the Philippine Institute of Interior Design to create beautiful holiday home vignettes using items from the store. Here, Joy Gladys Ejercito, Letty Sevilla-Ruiz, Sophia Ojeda, and Frenjick Quesada together with QTV 11 House Life host Tessa Prieto Valdes share their dream settings from the Our Home Holiday Collection 2009 Exhibit with us.
The 2009 Holiday Collection is available at Our Home stores at SM Megamall, SM City Fairview, SM Southmall, The Block at SM City North EDSA, V-Mall, SM City San Lazaro, and SM Mall of Asia. In the provincial areas, these are located at SM Supermalls in Bacoor, Pampanga, Lucena, Baguio, Marilao, Clark, Sta. Rosa, Batangas, and Dasmarinas in Luzon; as well as Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, the North Wing of SM City Cebu, and the newly opened store in Bacolod in the Vismin area.
Frenjick Quesada Dreams of a Black and White Christmas
Inspired by the love Christmas brings, interior designer, CPA, and Design HQ co-owner Frenjick Quesada created a romantic and memorable dinner setting for that special Christmas date. He is delighted at the yin and yang balance of the setting, which literally has two sides — a masculine side and a more feminine half. “This is special to me because it reflects how man and woman complement each other, creating dynamism and balance, and most importantly making each other whole” he says. Bridging this attraction of opposites is a white Christmas tree brimming with ribbons, tinsel, and ornaments to reflect the festivity and abundance of the season.
Letty Sevilla-Ruiz’s Yuletide Elegance
Known for her show stopping high-end Christmas vignettes, PIID member Letty Sevilla Ruiz focused on classic elegance for her Our Home set up. She transformed a simple living room into a dazzling holiday showcase with sophisticated touches like coordinate crystal ornaments, gold fillers, candles, poinsettias, and red and gold Christmas balls. The centerpiece of the space — and Letty’s favorite pieces — are the two multi-level Christmas trees that give a sense of height and proportion to the room.
Tessa Prieto-Valdes’ Whimsical Holiday
Celebrity interior designer Tessa Prieto-Valdes brought her flamboyant fashion style to Our Home by infusing holiday fun into a black and white living room setting. There was that unmistakable touch of whimsy in the vibrant purple and hot pink striped pillows, white balls with cutout designs, and Tessa’s favorite piece — a white Christmas tree decked with hot pink poinsettias and fancy peacock feathers.
Joy Gladys Ejercito’s Mid-Century Modern Holiday
Inspired by a modern mid century Christmas theme, PIID director for education Joy Ejercito’s Christmas set up for our home is anything but traditional with Eero Saarinn’s Knoll Chair and Tulip Coffee Table and a soft faux rug. Joy uses lots of purple, lilac, and plum in this living room set up that is full of symbolism — three plum colored candles signify the love and majesty of the Holy Trinity, while the black pillow with a glittery snowflake — her favorite piece — adds cheerfulness and coziness to the space.
Sophia Ojeda’s Merry and Bright Christmas
PIID member Sophia Ojeda, who owns a design company Sophisticated Interiors, was unabashed in celebrating Christmas with a bold red color scheme. Her dining room vignette is a visual feast with berries, moss and apples, goblets, and gift boxes in monochromatic red. Sophia is particularly proud of the tall centerpiece, which she put up with the Our Home staff. Made of tall twigs, it had red glass balls and crystals as ornaments, and was the main accent of the dining setting.
