Live a healthier life

Known to be a fitness and wellness shop catering to health and sport nutrition needs, GNC Live Well (Philippines) was recently brought to the fore with the launching of its store at the upper ground floor of Alabang Town Center. The new outlet will sport the look of all GNC stores in the US and overseas.

Director for international business operations for Asia Pacific and Australia Ken Tillet said, “Our goal is to share the countless health benefits of our nutritional supplements to help people live a healthier life. We know the challenges that most people face in today’s demanding lifestyle. They’re busier than ever before, often working longer and taking more active roles struggling to balance their career, family and social life, while trying to stay healthy, in-shape and on top of their game all day, every day.” Ken flew to the country with VP of commercial operation Karen Kuehneman.

GNC is the world’s leading provider of information, products and services in the self-care and personal enhancement market. The company offers the widest health solution of nutritional supplements from vitamins, minerals, herbs, to beauty, preventive, sports nutrition, diet and weight management products for every individual, health condition and lifestyle.

GNC sets the standard in the nutritional supplement industry by demanding truth in labeling and ingredient safety and product potency.

The launch of the new GNC was opened by COO and managing director Frieda Colet Lim, marketing director of Total Nutrition Corp. Cecila Hermoso and president of TAO Corp. Julio Sy.

Total Nutrition Corp. is the exclusive franchisee of General Nutrition Centers (GNC) in the Philippines. Established in January 2010, it is one of the newest subsidiaries of TAO Corp., one of the Philippines’ premier holding companies specializing in supply chain and distribution services.

Celebrities in style

The first-ever Star Studio Celebrity Style Awards were recently held at the Dusit Thani Manila.

Hosted by Sarah Meier and Bianca Valerio, Star Studio Celebrity Style Awards showcased a fashion show featuring pieces by the five Celebrity Designer of the Year nominees — Avel Bacudio, Francis Libiran, Joey Samson, Paul Cabral and Randy Ortiz.

Each awards type — People’s Choice Awards, Technical Awards and Celebrity Awards — had its own way of determining the winners. Awardees of the People’s Choice Awards were decided via text votes while the Celebrity Awards and Technical Awards were chosen by “style councils” comprised of experts from different style and fashion related industries. The first style council chose the nominees while a second jury was convened to decide on the winners for both Technical and Celebrity Awards.

Sagip Kapamilya of the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. was the chosen beneficiary of this event.

Others spotted were Star columnist Tim Yap, Isabel Oli, ABS-CBN Publishing’s Ernie Lopez, Kelly Misa, JC Buendia, Georgina Wilson and Borgy Manotoc.

One of the country’s renowned furniture brands, Philux, recently launched its holiday collection at its Rockwell Power Plant Mall showroom. The holiday collection features its signature material — wood combined with other materials such as stainless steel. The company’s marketing manager Stephanie Kienle said, “We do not want to take away anything from the beauty of the wood itself. We try to enhance it and give it an urban flair.”

Stephanie’s younger sister Jessica, currently studying Interior Design in Parsons NYC, added her design ideas in this year’s holiday collection.

For the launch, Philux collaborated with some interior designers and tastemakers. Interior designer Cynthia Almario created a cozy and inviting bedroom. She said, “I believe that the bedroom is a person’s private sanctuary, that is why we kept the room very tailored and uncluttered.”

Interior designers and space planners Carol Chua, Maricar dela Rama and Jie Pambid took charge of decorating a living room set. Pambid said, “It is an interesting combination of sitting pieces designed to provide maximum comfort and accessibility.”

Modern Epicurean Kitchen’s Stephanie Zubiri designed the look for the dining room. She said, “My set-up is laidback and modern with a touch of old world chic. My set-up is nothing too complicated. It’s exactly what I would do in my own home.”
