Raising healthy kids with healthy breakfasts

A parenting forum presented by Nestlé Philippines has emphasized the importance of providing kids healthy and nutritious breakfast to boost their health and development, start their day right and help them perform better in school. This message was the highlight of

How to Raise Happy and Healthy Kids

, a forum attended by moms with school-age children held at the Nestlé Center in Rockwell. Moms listened, learned and joined discussions on parenting, nutrition and tips on raising bright and healthy kids.

Country business manager for Nestlé Cereals Joey Uy said: “Kids today lead busy lifestyles that are packed with school work, sports and other activities. As parents, it is a must to give them nutritional support while not taking away their appetite. This parenting forum aims to educate mothers on giving kids proper nutrition, particularly healthy breakfast, to support all their activities every day.”

The forum was hosted by Bianca Valerio and featured a talk by Prof. Amy Santiago, trainer and resident nutrition speaker of Nestlé Philippines. Santiago indicated that breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it provides energy needed for daily activities adding that “whole grains contain all the healthy parts of the grain that provide kids sustained energy release and support memory and concentration while enabling them to feel full for longer and creating good and healthy eating habit. Whole grains also promote good digestion, maintain healthy body weight, prevent heart diseases and cancer and control diabetes.”

To give kids the benefits of whole grains, Santiago suggested breakfast cereals made with whole grains like Nestlé Breakfast Cereals, which contain essential nutrients, have a great taste that’s loved by kids to increase their breakfast appetite, and easy to prepare so both busy moms and kids can instantly enjoy a healthy breakfast despite their hectic schedules.

Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan shared tips to enable kids to eat healthy, saying: “Parents should instill the importance of eating healthy among their kids while they’re young. Make time for your kids, sit down with them during meals to ensure that they’re eating their veggies and grains and remind them of the long-term benefits of eating nutritious foods.”

Nestlé wellness ambassador Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez said: “The forum was very useful to working moms like me, who want to raise happy, healthy kids by giving them healthier foods they can enjoy instantly.” Another mom Tessa Prieto-Valdes said: “Just like most moms, I also have a hard time feeding my kids healthier foods in the morning, particularly my youngest child Athena, who’s in that age where she’d only eat what she likes. Now I know I have healthier breakfast alternatives that I can give my children, which are not only healthy but also taste really good.”

Moms went home with loads of Nestlé Breakfast Cereals such as Honey Stars, Koko Krunch, Milo, Cookie Crisp, Fitnesse, Fitnesses & Fruit, Almond Clusters and Banana Nut Clusters to give their kids a healthier first meal of the day.
