Being cooped up all day has taken a toll on most aspects of our lives, including our physical routines. While movies, telenovelas and social media has kept us company for so many months, most of us struggle with finding ways to simply get moving, not to mention the mental stress that adds to the tension and anxiety. Many people have delved deep into their creative juices and photos of delicious quick meals have obviously made instant chefs of countless people all over the world. Evidence on TikTok show exactly how funny and creative people have been through pranks, karaoke and dance
showdowns as well as sharing tips of all kinds.
But the most interesting videos I have seen that have caught my attention in terms of focus and determination are the ones who have used the time to attend to their physical health even in very small spaces. My very busy schedule leaves me tired everyday and I miss my usual exercise routine. Lately however, I have come to realize that this part of my own personal life needs more attention and self-care regardless of being in the frontlines. It is in fact
even something that my own body is telling me to give proper time to. I really do believe that your body will tell you when it needs a little more TLC and it’s important we learn to listen to it.
The mind-body connection is real. A healthy body will in turn give a healthier mind as all our organs communicate with one another and signals our corresponding emotions. The challenge of all those working from home together with students who are also learning from home, will include physical education, whether we like it or not. Simple exercises and good nutrition affects our ability to concentrate and come up with the right output. Like I said before, sooner or later your body will tell you when it’s time to pay attention to it.
The country is gearing up for no face-to-face learning, which means socialization and the way we interact in class will be very different. Maybe therefore, and, just maybe, we haven’t really factored in the part where exercise and physical fitness should be incorporated in the daily school activity of every learner. As creative as many of us are, I can’t wait to see more people taking “a five” to do a few jumping jacks before getting back to work. Many things online are just a click away and the path to a healthy and daily physical habit is a baby step with significant benefits that will surely improve our way of life.
