Cooler mornings and nights are expected in the coming days as the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan now prevails over the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported yesterday.
In a telephone interview, Pagasa weather forecaster Ludy Alviar said the northeast monsoon will bring down the temperature which will hover from 23 to 30 degrees Celsius while the peak of the northeast monsoon is in January next year.
Meanwhile, she said light to moderate rainfall is expected over southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in the next days due to the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
Metro Manila and northern Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
Alviar said no tropical cyclones are expected to enter the country within the next five days.
Pagasa had predicted that two to three storms will enter the country this month.
Last year, 20 cyclones hit the Philippines, including three super typhoons.
Pagasa weather branch chief Nathaniel Cruz earlier said Filipinos can expect a “wetter but warmer” Christmas season this year because of the prevailing La Niña phenomenon in the country.
La Niña refers to the abnormal cooling of sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific and characterized by excessive rainfall.
The weather bureau earlier said wetter than normal conditions are expected over Visayas, some areas of Luzon, including Metro Manila from October to December.
Pagasa said based on latest observations and forecasts, La Niña conditions are weak and will prevail in the coming weeks and likely strengthen in the next months.
