CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A woman was found dead inside a refrigerator in an apartment that she and her partner rented in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday morning.
The body, which showed signs of strangulation, was found at around 9 a.m. by the owner of the apartment located in Barangay San Jose.
The owner told police that she went to the apartment on Sept. 10 to have the lease contract signed, but no one answered her knocking.
She said she returned yesterday for the same purpose and noticed a foul odor coming from the apartment.
She then sought the help of barangay officials who called the police.
Aside from the body in the refrigerator, responding police officers found two ID cards of the woman and a man at the scene.
Police said the woman’s partner is being considered as a person of interest in the case.
3 workers found dead in workplace
In Leyte, three workers including a woman were found dead at their workplace in Palo town on Wednesday.
The fatalities were found in the sleeping quarters of a sewing shop in Barangay Campetic.
Police withheld the identities of the fatalities until after their families are notified.
Leyte police director Col. Cerelino Sacro Jr. said no sign of forced entry was found at the scene.
Probers said the workers could have died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a generator set installed inside the worplace.
Citing information that power outages frequently occur in the area, police said the workers might have left the generator set operating overnight.
Reports said the shop was poorly ventilated.
Meanwhile, in Iloilo, a woman suffering from mental illness allegedly slashed the throat of her 11-year-old daughter in Oton town.
The girl was found dead by her father at their house in Barangay Cabanbanan at around 6:30 p.m.
The woman was not in the house. Neighbors said they saw her leaving at around 3 p.m.
The woman’s husband confirmed that his wife went home to her family in the nearby town of Dingle.
Oton police chief Lt. Col. Norbert Sipole said the family turned the woman over to authorities a few hours after the incident. — Miriam Desacada, Jennifer Rendon
